The NorthEast Seacoast Unit presents, Gardening for the Five Senses Want to know the difference between a charming garden and a breathtaking garden? An extraordinary garden engages all of your senses, not just sight. The smallest of things can transport us back to another place and time: the scent of lilac in the evening, the unmistakable taste of basil in a summer salad, the wooly comfort of lamb’s ears. Each one elicits a memory while creating a new one. In this lecture, horticulturist Kelly Orzel will teach you how to create a beautiful and stimulating garden in your backyard that will tickle all five senses – sound, sight, smell, taste and touch – sustainably! She will discuss which plants and garden features to include and explain how gardening around the senses will enhance your outdoor space with unusual artistry, regardless of size. She will also bring a selection of plants for sale to help you get started. Kelly Orzel is a horticulturist, Master Gardener and life-long grower of green things. When she began working at a local nursery at age fifteen, she fell in love with plants and dirt. Now with more than twenty years of experience and a master's degree in Horticulture, Kelly's affection for plants and flowers has manifested itself with Bowery Beach Farm in Cape Elizabeth, Maine BoweryBeachFarm.com . As a sustainable, organic farmer she specializes in culinary herbs and scented geraniums. A grower at heart, Kelly offers a wide selection of unique plants including the old-fashioned and heirloom varieties which she grows for their delicate and delicious scents, colors and beauty that is often missing in many of the plants and flowers found today.
