Mission Statement: The Ozark Unit is an organization whose mission is to promote the knowledge, use and delight of herbs through educational programs, research and sharing the experience with the community.
Meeting Times: First Saturday, 11:00AM at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View, Arkansas.Gardens Maintained: Specialty gardens within the Heritage Herb Garden at the Ozark Folk Center.
The Ozark Folk Center State Park is home to one of the largest and most diverse herb gardens in the nation. The specimens are old-time pass-a-long ornamentals, dye plants, roses and members of our herb collections including rosemary, scented geranium, sage and mint. All are arranged in cottage garden fashion. Native Ozark herbs grow in naturalized areas.
The Herb Cabin features dried and processed plants that are labeled as to use by early Ozark settlers. The Herb Shoppe and Plant Market are located within the Center’s Craft Village and offers books, seeds, plants and hand-crafted artwork.
Many of our herbs are propagated in a greenhouse located in a secluded area outside of the Craft Village. The greenhouse is a living classroom for herb growing classes held during the cooler parts of the year. Whether your interests are in cooking, crafting, ethnobotany, gardening, growing, history or identification of herbs we present annual workshops designed for you.
