"A relatively slower growing cultivar of sweet bay, ‘Sunspot’ has random gold-variegated
foliage, which is especially pronounced in spring and fall. This cultivar also has the attractive feature of developing long linear red lines along mature wood in the summertime. Its culinary uses are the same as regular sweet bay. Diligence is required to remove the occasional reversion in order to preserve the beautiful golden variegation.”
– Andrew van Hevelingen, Promising Plants Presentation, 2004
